The MPower™ forecast system operates on
high-resolution forecast grids. The resolution of these grids is easily adjustable
when terrain or other effects necessitate higher resolution. Information generated by
all of the weather analysis and forecasting models is automatically transferred onto
this common grid in order to permit a more streamlined forecasting process. Meridian's
meteorologists then use a number of display and editing tools to:
- visualize the present state of the forecast;
- modify the forecast where necessary; and,
- apply expert knowledge through a series of special
algorithms Meridian has developed.
The set of algorithms are a joint effort of Meridian's lead meteorologists and
development team built from forecasting experience and designed to aid forecast
refinement. Once a meteorologist is satisfied that the grids contained within the
MPower™ forecast system accurately reflect his or her present thinking, the
forecaster "publishes" the forecast.

After publishing the meteorologist can continue to monitor the situation and refine the
forecast grids as necessary. If the forecaster feels that the criteria for an update
have been met, he/she only needs to republish the refined forecast with a single click
of button on the MPower™ interface and MPower™ will immediately distribute
the forecast revisions to all affected customers. The ease of this entire process
ensures that forecasts, and forecast updates, are issued in a timely manner.
